Press announcement Books Holland b.v. 19/12/2007:

Books Holland expands its activities in the field of automatic sample glueing through its purchase of two new machines

Books Holland b.v. from Zoetermeer, manufacturer of sample presentations (including books, cards, displays etc.) for inter alia fabrics/textiles, wallpaper, cover material, paper and film/foil collections, purchased two new machines for glueing samples.

The first machine puts the glue on the required surface, whilst the second machine places the sample precisely where it has to be. These machines enable Books to enlarge its capacity and its manufacturing possibilities of sample making and to respond to the growing demand for samples glued on a specific surface like paper, cardboard etc.

Materials can be delivered to Books on a roll or flat, and will first be cut to the required final size or shape. Books can in principle also handle materials which have been cut already somewhere else. Glue can be put on 1 or 2 sides of the surface, and the machine can handle a maximum surface size of 65 x 42 cm. By using water-based glues, the environment is only moderately affected.

Books' studio can, if desired, take care of all design and printing work. Clients have the opportunity to thereby use the entire range of disciplines and expertise available at Books, which leads to all techniques and processes fitting seamlessly into oneanother.

Since the start in 1995, Books has grown to become one of Europe's major companies in the sample presentations business. The corporate slogan 'Books, for perfect sampling!' reflects the company's involvement in finding solutions for how to best present collections. Working with a team of some 40 highly enthousiastic experts, Books delivers its products to clients all over the world. On www.books.nl, extensive information on all sorts of sample presentations is offered.

A motivated team

Although we have automated many parts of the production process, many parts remains pure hand craft. Our team consists of motivated people, each of whom are specialists for several stages of the process and can hence work on different kind of activities. They give utmost attention to your materials, and they consider your sample presentation to reflect their own involvement.

After selecting and unpacking the material, each piece gets a sticker mentioning all details required for the further process. In this way, many projects can run at the same time, without materials getting mixed-up.

The rolls are first cut to plain sheets, which furthers the running speed of our machines considerably.

These gross sheets are then cut to full, semi-full, border or cutback pages. Fabrics can get a serrated finish if required to avoid loose ends.

The sheets receive a print on the back, or a printed sticker or paper framework, mentioning the article number, collection name etc, and are cut to final size.

Several home workers glue the borders and cutback sizes on the page below.

Our office-based account managers also arrange

all printing material which you want the presentation to include, such as interior and close-up photos.

Sheets and photo pages are combined to sets, which are nailed to a block, to which a cover is attached.

At several stages of this manufacturing process, checks are made to ensure the quality levels set for

the entire series.

An important part of the finished product is the way in which it is packed. Because the presentations are sent all over the world, the package must be of certain quality to make sure the presentations arrive in good shape in, say, San Francisco or Moscow. An individual

carton box will generally avoid that the presentation gets damaged. For warehouse purposes, using an individual box has the further advantage of having room for placing a sticker whith the collection name, series quantity, and a series number, which makes that each box can be identified i.e. traced easily. Boxes can of course be printed with your logo or other corporate identity elements to create a better look than plain grey or white carton. Additionally, inside the carton or on the product itself, we can add any promotional gift you like to draw more attention to it. When opening the box, this gift will certainly surprise the addressee.

Trucks come and go .....

The presentations we manufacture find their way to destinations all over the world.

Innovation

At Books Holland, we consider innovation to be our daily concern. Since producing sample presentations is highly specialised work, our technical people have built several unique

machines and have automated/integrated several other standard machines.

One example is our  sidecapping machine. Until recently, side caps were fitted to the blocks by hand. With our new machine, we have automated this provcess and have thereby reduced costs considerably and also created time benefits.

Non-woven wallcoverings take over ever greater market shares, but this kind of material is very hard to gather by a machine. Hence, many collections nowadays must be gathered by hand. We are working hard to create a machine which can handle non-wovens.

Our people behind your order:

Eric Calsijn

Production Manager

Coordinates all work flows.

As shown, Mr. Calsijn is busy planning the production people to their job of the next day.

When the planning changes, he arranges things to keep the production on track. Mr. Calsijn has over 10 years of production and management experience with Books Holland.

Arjo Bijsterveld

Technical Director.

Responsable for our machinery and their automatisation/process integration.

For new materials and presentation products, Mr. Bijsterveld is the first person to check the technical possibilities thereof. Just like Mr. Calsijn, Mr. Bijsterveld has more than 10 years of production and technical management experience with our company.

Coen Kramer

Mr. Kramer is Account Manager at the Order Desk. Here, he shows one of our recent productions, the Clotilde display book as manufactured for Sandberg.

Many of our clients and suppliers have Mr. Kramer as their daily contact person. He has extensive knowledge of the entire business chain, building on nearly 5 years of experience with us.

The production of fabric collection presentations is in good hands with Books Holland.

For manufacturing fabric presentations, we can use many of the techniques which we apply for wallpaper but also add several other techniques, such as

cutting from the roll, making serrated finishes, hot-sealing and glueing fabrics on paper cards or frameworks.

The rolls are first cut to coupons (sheets).

Afterwards, the fabrics receive a machine-made serrated finish.

Then, nett-sized fabric pages are created.

Fabric cards and frameworks get a glue layer, machine-applied.

Glueing can also be made by hand, which for some collections is actually necessary due to differing page sizes. The fabrics as attached to the card or framework are collected and put in order by machine or otherwise by hand, depending on whether the machine can handle the fabric material, and nailed to a block.

Cutback pages combined with interior photos make it possible to present a collection per room.

  One of our innovations is

  a digital laying list. By

means of a link with our

  resulting in quicker

  avoidance.

Other materials handled and transferred to presentation products

We can handle many other materials than wallpaper and interior fabrics. Examples are fashion textiles, window films, giftwrap paper, and of course printed sheets. Since such materials require by nature another way of presenting them, the Books team is fit to find the right concept for you and your target group. Our machines and people offer various possibilities, even for handling difficult materials like those which wrinkle easily, like super-thin foils and films.

For SunTek/CTC Europe, who manufacture/distribute car window films, we produced the swatch as shown on the left.

We produce swatches in various shapes. Swatches are perfectly suited for showing colours and qualities of many flat materials.

Trucks come and go.....

From anywhere in the world, we get delivered rolls of material at various sizes. We take care that these are unpacked and put in desired order carefully, and that at the end of our production line, a high quality sample presentation comes out. These then find their way to our clients or their distributors anywhere in the world.

A fully trained team

Because sample presentations manufacturing requires people who are super-fit, on the 1st of June of this year, the entire Books team went to a forest to play paintball. Afterwards, a BBQ took care to still our hungry stomachs.
